Organizing Director, Rising Voices
-
Henry Duong leads Rising Voices’ efforts to organize and mobilize Michigan’s Asian American communities around progressive policy, issue-based campaigns, and civic engagement. As a Vietnamese immigrant raised in the San Gabriel Valley of Los Angeles, CA, Henry’s upbringing in a vibrant and predominately working-class AAPI and Latinx community shaped his views on solidarity, family, and grassroots power outside the oppressive systems of white supremacy.
At Rising Voices, he has led successful advocacy efforts, including the passage of Michigan’s first comprehensive language access law in 2023. Before this role, Henry worked at the California Association of Nonprofits, helping organizations secure state COVID-19 grants and advocating for student debt reform. He also served under DC Mayor Muriel Bowser at the Mayor’s Office on Asian Pacific Islander Affairs, where he oversaw a $1 million grant program for Census outreach, led language access compliance, and reporting of anti-Asian hate crimes.
Henry holds a BA in Public Relations and Marketing from American University. In his free time, Henry likes to cook for family and friends, travel, and dive into Wikipedia rabbit holes to collect seemingly useless factoids
